A Work Poem

Tulips are red

Violets are blue

I didn’t know what to write

So I created this poem for you.

It’s not standard in business to write something like this

But I think maybe something is lost, something might be missed

This week was hard

This week was great

This week created new opportunities

That might be THE opportunities

Or maybe they aren’t

Because nothing is guaranteed until the contract is signed

This is what makes running a business so hard

So exciting

So frustrating

So everything, everywhere, all at once

Each opportunity must be the most exciting opportunity

But also I’m not counting on it

I can't count on it

Because that will guarantee heartbreak

This week was exciting because our clients are happy

This week was hard because nothing was working

This week was exciting because I confessed to my coach

That our plan

The plan we’ve been working on for the past 6 months

Is no longer the plan

This week was hard because the plan that we’ve been working on

For the last 6 months

Is no longer the plan

This week was great because my team kept me going

This week was hard because I let out my frustrations

On them

And I apologized and they laughed

“You were a bit sensitive”

“I couldn’t tell!”

And when I tell them on Monday

Instead of writing the blog that I’ve been trying to write since Monday

I wrote this silly poem about my week

Being exciting

Being hard

They’ll cheer on my creativity

And we’ll have a good laugh

And get ready for the week

Whatever it brings

Because tulips are red

Violets are blue

And as a business owner

It’s what we will continue to do
